Competition for the Best Idea in the Field of Social Business

In the scope of „Social Business Tour 2010“, which is aimed at the development of long-term initiatives of that kind in Central and Eastern Europe, there is a competition in progress for the best idea in the domain of Social Business.

This competition is aimed at the promotion of the ideas and not at projects already realized in the field of Social Business. Submitted ideas have to be innovative in the approach, and they have to have a potential to finally solve observed social problems of great importance, in the fields of education, agriculture, health care, energetic, finance and social integration of the people who are stricken by poverty and social marginalization. Proposed business model has to be sustainable when it comes to expenses, but also to be suitable for use in other countries of the region. The idea itself has to be based on the basic principles of Social Business, and to fulfill other criteria of Social Business, that is to be financially, socially and ecologically sustainable, consistently focused on the realization of social goals. Furthermore, that means that the profit always has to remain to businessmen, and to be further used in the enlargement and improvement of the chosen activity. Everyone is welcome to take part in „Social Business Tour 2010“, without limitations in the means of age, education level or type of employment. Individuals and/or groups of up to five persons may apply. For idea proposals which will be short listed a detailed business plan will need to be delivered as well.

Deadline for submitting idea proposals is September, 13th, or August, 25th 2010 if participants expect the feedback information from the organizers. Applications are to be submitted exclusively in English by logging on to www.socialbusinesstour.com.

The best ideas will firstly be chosen on the national level, in the countries encompassed by the tour. Decision on the competition winner will be made in the scope of European finals which will be held in Bucharest in October.

„Social Business Tour 2010“ is the mutual initiative of ERSTE Foundation, Erste Group, good.bee organization , Gramen Creative Lab and Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Republic of Austria. The project was launched in the year of the fight against poverty and social exclusion in Europe, with the goal to promote the concept of Social Business in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The tour, which started in May 2010, will encompass the total of six countries of the region (Austria, Checz Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and Romania).

In the role of the patron of the tour, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and the founder of the idea of Social Business Prof. Muhammad Yunus will visit Belgrade on October, 31st, 2010. Their contribution to the promotion of the idea of Social Business in Serbia will be given by Božidar Đelić, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integrations of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the Team for Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction.

*good.bee is the initiative of Erste Group and ERSTE Foundation in the fields of Microbanking and Social Business, which offer financial services and support to the projects which for their goal have the improvement of people’s lives in the field of Social Business in Central and Eastern Europe
