National Lottery of Serbia, in cooperation with Balkan Community Initiatives Fund (BCIF) has awarded grants for the four chosen projects, on the third competition within Goodness program. For the realization of those projects National Lottery of Serbia has provided nearly three million dinars (2.925.120 dinars).
91 nonprofit organizations from 66 local communities from the entire Serbia, from urban as well as from rural communities, applied for the competition. Statistically it looks as follows: 30 projects (32,9%) from Vojvodina, 25 projects (27,5%) from southern Serbia, 15 projects (16,5%) from eastern Serbia, 9 projects (9,9%) from western Serbia, 7 projects (7,7%) from Belgrade and its surroundings, 3 projects (3,3%) from Sandzak, and 2 projects (2,2%) from Kosovo. Out of all submitted projects, 12 projects were recommended, 29 projects were sent to obtain consent to be withdrawn, and 50 projects were withdrawn on the basis of the basic criteria.
The following organizations were supported:
1. Society for Local Development Kamenica, village Kamenica, Niš, in the amount of 798.930 dinars.
2. Women’s Active of the Local Community of Bački Jarak, Temerin, in the amount of 742.000 dinars.
3. Municipal Organization of Pensioners of the Municipality of Kosjeric, Kosjeric, in the amount of 789.790 dinars.
4. Municipal Organization of the Invalids of Work of the Municipality of Gračanica, Gračanica, in the amount of 594.400 dinars.
In partnership with Municipalities of Pantelej, Svrljig and Crveni Krst, as well with support from Center for Social Work “Sveti Sava”, Red Cross, The Association of Catering, Hotel and Tourist Workers of Niš, renowned individuals and a number of media, Society for Local Development “Kamenica” organizes a system of non-institutional social support in 13 villages on the outskirts of Svrljig mountains, based on the examples of good praxis of the already established Club for the Elderly and self-help groups. In these newly established clubs, the elderly will have an opportunity to socialize and participate in a number of activities, and they will have at their disposal the support of their fellow contemporaries through self-help groups, which will be specially trained by the experts. By those projects the elderly will get new spaces for socializing, gaining new insights, education on their rights and information on how to acquire those rights, but they will foremost get the attention they deserve.
By „Let’s Together“ project, Women’s Active of the Local Community of Bački Jarak is planning to make use of the considerable social resource of their community – activism of the people over the age of 65, which has been neglected for many years – through transfer of their potentials (knowledge, experience and acquired skills) and values onto the unemployed younger generations (vulnerable women over the age of 45). The activities encompass 3 types of workshops: tailoring and sowing workshops; handiwork workshops (embroidery, knitting and needlework) and creative educational workshops (making decorations out of various materials), and they follow one another. The activities have two purposes: - making use of traditional practical knowledge and skills of the elderly, in accordance with the contemporary habits and the way of life of the unemployed younger women in the community. The final „creative product“, signed by the hands of Temerin women, will be presented on a public manifestation, the final project activity – the first fair of the creations of the elderly in Temerin, which will be organized in Cultural – information center in Temerin. The organization of the fair is conceived as a unique time machine (the works will be displayed in the readapted old „grandma’s closets“). The works will serve as a support to vulnerable single old households in the community.
By „Even the Old Age May be Actively Creative“ project, Municipal Organization of Pensioners of the Municipality of Kosjeric, wishes to attribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly, through encouraging their active participation in different fields of social and cultural life (founding singing groups for the elderly, creative workshops) and the improvement of social care (tutorials on healthy nutrition, life styles, check-ups etc.). The singers of the male and female singing group will participate on a summer manifestation Shepherd’s days, which is traditionally held on a hill Grad near Kosjeric. On that occasion, an exhibition of handicrafts made during the course of this project will be organized.
By „The Club of the Elderly – invalids of work over the age of 65“ project, Municipal Organization of the Invalids of Work of the Municipality of Gračanica, wishes to respond to the increased needs of the elderly to participate in the social life of the local community through various club activities, appropriate celebration of the important dates, handicrafts exhibitions and radio show with direct involvement of the participants. This club, which will take place in a metal container, will be a place of open doors for all the elderly and the young who are willing to share their stories, to socialize and to mutually enliven the old crafts such as handiworks.
By realizing the chosen projects, the goal of Goodness program is to improve the position and the quality of life of the elderly, through launching activities for encouraging their participation in different fields of social and cultural life, in places where such type of social care does not exist.
