Public Classes on the Importance of Individual Giving Held in High Schools of Kruševac and Karlovci
Regarding Penny is not Petty - Giving hand, joyous heart campaign, which is being implemented by domestic foundation Balkan Community Initiatives Fund (BCIF), a public class was held in high school of Kruševac on November, 8th, while on November, 12th students of Sremski Karlovci high school participated in a public class.
The public classes have a goal to raise the awareness of the young on the importance of philanthropy, that is individual giving and donating for a better cause. It was an opportunity for the students to hear about the history of philanthropy in the country and the rest of the world, and to identify themselves and to come up with their own ways of how to participate in the same actions within their community.
Stefan Aleksić, who is a junior in Karlovci high school, said: “The public class was a great experience, the idea of philanthropy is now much clearer to me, as well as how an individual may provide help to those who are in need of help.”
Ksenija Graovac, Philanthropy Program Manager at Balkan Community Initiatives Fund, pointed out that, after Kruševac and Sremski Karlovci, Balkan Community Initiatives Fund continues with its series of public classes in Niš, Subotica and Pančevo. The goal of the classes will be to educate the young on how to engage themselves in socially useful initiatives in their community, and to help those who are in need of help.
Public class is the second public action in a row, after previous street action which was held on Nikole Pašića Square in Belgrade, within the campaign whose goal aims at raising awareness and solidarity of the citizens on the importance of philanthropy, which is individual giving for the general welfare to those who are in need of help. This campaign is being implemented with financial help from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and in partnership with Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC).
