The Conference “CSOs – Strong Partners in Social Welfare System Reform”, 9th June, Belgrade

Balkan Community Initiatives Fund (BCIF), the Republic Institute for Social Protection and the Provincial Institute for Social Protection are inviting you to the National Conference -  Civil Society Organisations – Strong Partners in Social Welfare System Reform, organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy on 9th June 2011, in Belgrade, at the Palace of Serbia, starting at 9.00 AM.

The aim of the conference is to gather representatives of the government, institutions and civil society organizations dealing with people with intellectual disabilities so that they can meet, share experiences and discuss opportunities for future cooperation, in accordance with the directions provided by the new Law on Social Protection.

The conference will deal with the cooperation of all actors in the social welfare system, the role of civil society in the social welfare system reform in Serbia, and the new Law on Social Protection. Participants will have an opportunity to hear the lecture given by a Dutch expert in the field of social protection for persons with disabilities, Mr Hans van der Vilen, on a method called The Quality of life developed by an eminent professor Robert Selok which defines and measures the quality of life with a focus on equality, inclusion, empowerment and support, and that is also applied in work with people with intellectual disabilities.

Issues of inter-sector cooperation, quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities and social services will be discussed within the working groups. All participants will receive a Manual for deliverers of social services for people with intellectual disabilities where they will find useful articles on social welfare systems in Serbia and Holland, as well as examples of good practice in providing social services by civil society organizations from both countries.

The National Conference is part of the project with the same name which BCIF implements in partnership with the SKAN Foundation from Holland, funded by the European Union, aiming at supporting cooperation between civil society organizations and institutions from Serbia and from European Union countries (Holland), strengthening links and sharing experience between social service deliverers.

Due to limited number of participants, it is necessary that the participants register in advance. Please register by e-mail to Jelena Mihailovic, the Project Coordinator, at the following address: jelena@bcif.org, or by phone at 069/20-24-065, no later than Friday 3rd June 2011.
