The First Meeting with Journalists on the Topic of Philanthropy Held

On Thursday, June 2nd in Belgrade Balkan Community Initiatives Fund organized a meeting and working breakfast with journalists and media representatives with a goal to introduce the topic of philanthropy to the broader public and to enable continuous media coverage.  The journalists of the following media participated in the meeting: Vreme, Viva, Radio Beograd, Kreator tim, Beta, Blic Žena, Balkan Magazin, B92, Danas and Portal Svet osiguranja.

BCIF’s Executive Director Miodrag Shrestha, Program Manager Ksenija Graovac and Program Coordinator Tijana Morača informed the participants about the current BCIF’s activities in the topic of philanthropy – the closing of Penny is not Petty campaign, the research on the presence of the topic of philanthropy in Serbian media, the preparations for this year’s VIRTUS award, as well as about the activities of civil societies which are supported by BCIF in fundraising from individuals and companies in the communities they work in.

Furthermore, some of the topics were the global tendencies concerned with philanthropic giving, then the opportunities and obstacles in philanthropy development in Serbia, as well as the role and importance of media in that process.

The following meeting with journalists and media representatives will be organized in August. Both meetings were enabled within The Civil Society Advocacy Initiative program, in partnership with Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC), and with financial support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
