How Young Artists from Šabac Reinvented Old „Zastava“ Cars
Young creative people from Šabac, who participated at one of the workshops within The Culture of Remembrance: The City in 20 Paintings project, have come up with a truly innovative way to reinvent the public space by using no less than old Zastava cars. By bringing three old “Zastavas” from “Inos Napredak” company from Šabac (which is in the car recycling business) to downtown Šabac, the young citizens of Šabac from Artists’ Society The Stairs, which is implementing this project, have put up a unique surface for graffiti painting.
On Friday, September 23rd public graffiti painting on temporary objects was organized. Young graffiti artists along with the students of School of Art Crafts, who participated in sculpture and graffiti workshops, participated in the painting. Public graffiti painting was concluded around 7 PM. During the action DJ Gianludi Deiana (ITA) played the music, and a great number of people gathered.
After that, on Sunday, September 25th a children workshop with the youngest citizens was held within the same project. At the start, young artists were drawing and making figures from modeling clay, which were used later for shooting stop motion animated movie. The participants named the movie “The Princess of Šabac and the Colorful Team”. The works, set design and animated movie will be displayed and presented at the project exhibition, as well as on the project’s website www.kulturasecanja.rs.
All the products of creative work within this project will be displayed at the mentioned exhibition, which will be opened on October 1st at Cultural Centre Šabac, where it will be displayed until October 7th. The Culture of Remembrance: The City in 20 Paintings project was supported within Centrifuga 2011 program, which is being implemented by ERSTE Bank in partnership with Balkan Community Initiatives Fund (BCIF).
